A&J was founded by brothers Andy and JC DePoy in August of 1985. Andy was the sole owner from 1995 until his death in 2010. During Andy's tenure, A&J grew to include crane services, a concrete division and a paving division. During this timespan A&J acquired additional equipment, experienced crane operators, certified blasters, and equipment operators when David A Reed, a locally owned excavating company founded in 1947 closed.
Later, when Monger Brothers, Inc closed, A&J purchased their rock trucks and track drills and hired their employees. This growth and these acquisitions allowed A&J the ability to offer a complete earthworks package: excavation, concrete, crane services, drilling, blasting, and paving.
One of A&J's biggest achievements was to install Topcon's 3D GPS grade control system to our excavating equipment. Electronic grade controls put an entire project's model in the memory of a computer in the machine's cab. This technology
gave us a better way to control our jobsite. Operators are no longer dependent on grade stakes and can excavate with complete accuracy and greater efficiency.

In August 2011 A&J was purchased from Andy's estate by Rick Raines, Devon Anders, Kathie Brandt, and two outside investors.
On December 13, 2020 A&J and Blue Ridge Rock Services, LLC were purchased by A.L.L. Construction, Inc. of Petersburg, WV. A.L.L. is a successful excavation company founded in 1996.
In 2013, the drilling and blasting division was spun off into a wholly owned subsidiary (Blue Ridge Rock Services, LLC).
